Ryan Morris, 30

Starting his career as a picker in the warehouse at 17, Ryan Morris was promoted to operations director last year at just 28. Morris grew his role with the business – over the time span M&M Direct has grown from a £5 million firm to one with sales nearer £100 million.

Working beyond his role, Morris has developed into an operations supremo understanding how different parts of the business operate and fit together, and anticipating problems before they arise. He has also developed a committed team around him, inspired by his leadership qualities.

Morris recently masterminded the move from three warehouse sites into one 200,000sq ft location, which had to operate live while under construction. This involved relocating about 20,000 SKUs – a task that was completed ahead of time and within budget.

Very much a trouble-shooter, Morris has also proved himself the hero of flooded premises and power outages – he is a retailer with drive and ingenuity who will go far.

Morris’ achievements were recognised last year when he was nominated as one of Retail Weeks’ Rising Stars in the Supply Chain Professional of the year category.
