Newly promoted to senior video editor in the marketing department at online retailer Asos, Treve Jackson describes his introduction to fashion as accidental. He studied film production at Staffordshire University, graduating in 2007, when he worked briefly for a now-defunct internet start-up and with online publisher CNet.

Jackson joined Asos in 2008 as a video editor with the production team, working mostly on catwalk coverage. He increasingly took on work for the promotional team – to a point where he moved to the marketing department last year, where he was promoted to his current role.

His role involves translating the ideas and concepts of the marketing team into video. He works with the head of art, producers, plus freelance photographers and stylists.

Jackson appreciates the creative possibilities that product brings to his role of creating moving images at Asos. He says: “The shift from production to creative work at Asos happened organically, but I really enjoy anything visual – especially making an idea work and look cool. When I joined, I thought fashion  would be interesting because it is such a visual medium.”

He also finds freedom in working with fashion. “There doesn’t always have to be a reason for doing something in a particular way – other than that it is interesting.”

Appreciating the “infinite scope” of his role, Jackson sees himself “learning and growing” with Asos. “Online video is evolving, and there is no standard – you can make it whatever you want to.”
