Shawl collars
Most of the lifestyle collections on show at Pitti offered shawl collars on chunky knitwear, as did a surprising amount of brands that specialise in tailoring. A more interesting option than the standard V-neck, it could help to prolong the cardigan as a menswear bestseller.
The new neckline was merchandised with shirts and ties, cravats or simple wool scarves, providing a look that stretches from buttoned-up and collegiate to the louche country gent. It encompassed both high-collar versions with button fastening, or deeper Vs on longer knits.
