Velvet

Deep pile velvets boosted the plush feel of many collections, adding texture and rich depth to tailoring. Some brands went the whole hog and produced full-blown velvet jackets and suits, while others opted to use it as a highlight fabric via a half-collar trim on suits and coats. It was treated in a contemporary rather than retro manner on a generally sharp silhouette.

Aside from basic black, the fabric also used a purple and brown palette, providing surface interest and lustre to a season dominated by flatter flannels.
