Micam footwear tradeshow sees a drop in visitor numbers

International footwear trade show Micam reported a 1.8% drop in visitor numbers this season, as the number of Italian buyers fell.

According to the show’s organisers, total visitor numbers for the autumn 13 edition of the four day trade show, which took place at the Fiera Milano exhibition centre in Milan from March 3-6, were 35,389, down from 36,049 the previous March.

Despite the drop in numbers, show president Cleto Sagripanti said he was “pleased” with the attendance levels at the 75th edition of the footwear exhibition although many British brands said they had been quiet.

“It was quite quiet on the stand compared to last season,” said Mark Husted sales director of men’s footwear brand Base London.

While Natalie Dean, founder of ethical footwear label Beyond Skin, added: “The last day of the show was particularly quiet.”

Sagripanti said that although the number of domestic visitors from Italy had declined the number of international visitors at the show were up to 19,181, although he did not reveal how many international visitors came to the show last autumn season.

“In keeping with the sharp drop in domestic demand, we’ve seen a decline in the Italian attendance and an increase in foreign operators,” he said.

“This edition of Micam’s numbers are a tangible and concrete sign of the event’s importance and power.”
