Verdict: The messy store is a letdown, as is a lack of interesting pieces compared with last season

Looks - 6

With the front of this store dedicated to The Big Gap Sale, you have to go about half way back to find any of this season's trends. They are there, however, hiding away, and include pin tuck cotton blouses, sky blue denim shorts, and cute slouchy jumpsuits.

There is a move towards slightly more colour this season, which shots of coral and baby pink infiltrating the largely neutral palette, which are shown off by mannequins on raised platforms at the front of the store. But there is still a hangover of chocolate brown in the colour mix from the winter collection.

Mix - 6

The majority of dresses appear to be in the discounted area from last season, and there is more concentration on simple basics such as cotton T-shirts and linen trousers, vests, jersey pieces and smock tops for spring.

This is a shame as items such as the blue and black gingham shift from last season suggested a move towards some innovative dress designs.

Store - 6

The clean aesthetic you would expect from a Gap retailer is ruined by the Sale, which means circular rails of mismatched jeans and distressed product displays greet you as you walk in and take away from the clean and sharp feel of the store.

The Pierre Hardy footwear collection, which has had so many column inches, is on the back of a pillar in the middle of the store so you're only really likely to spot the shoes as you walk out, and the designer's name is weirdly omitted from the product display.

Aside from the on-Sale denim, the rest is neatly arranged in colour and size order at the back of the store.

Value - 6

The looks championed at Gap are younger than the other mainstream retailers so the price comparisons for product such as denim shorts and slogan T-shirts comes more from the young fashion section.

Here they sit slightly higher, with £35 for a linen belted smock, £40 for jeans and £15 for Gap slogan T-shirts.

A cotton shirt with oversized front pockets is a pricey £35. Linen jackets come in at £50 and jersey cardigans are £25, while a lace-trimmed vest is a reasonable £12.50, with the plain vests just £10.

keira-davis-at-gap• Are you a regular shopper here?
Yes, I shop here a lot.

• What does this shop mean to you?
It's affordable, but good quality.

• How impressed are you with this season's offerings?
I was very impressed. There was a lot of new stock, and some really nice separates.

• What is it they're doing well?
Clean lines.

• What have they missed out that you would have liked to have seen?
I would have liked to have seen more florals. And the trends are always the same, as is the colour palette of navy and cream; it would have been nice to have seen a fresher look for the new season.
