Verdict: Miss S blends its signature youthful take on styles with a more grown-up edge in an on-trend offer

Looks - 8

There is plenty to please the younger end of Miss Selfridge's target market, with pin tucked cotton tops, dip-dye dresses, ditsy floral mini skirts and cute bow detailing on ribbed vests.

Miss Selfridge has also tried a more grown-up option alongside this for spring, with high-waisted skirts, intricately embellished silk tops and luxe sports eveningwear peppering the offering.

Yellow is a key colour for dresses, and swimwear is sparkly with playful prints, and matching summery scarves. There is a small nautical story towards the back of the store with blue and white striped jersey tops.

Mix - 9

The shop is split easily into casualwear along the right and glam party gear down the left hand side.

Casual product includes a few combat trouser styles, alongside peasant girl-inspired plaid dresses and a deluge of linen and cotton bib tops, while eveningwear is predominantly clingy dresses with sparkly detailing.

This mix is just right for the young Miss Selfridge customer who loves her cute daywear but still wants the option of glitzing up for the evening.

Store - 6

Animal print sheer tops are an interesting choice of product on the window mannequins, demonstrating the retailer's intention to avoid slavishly following trends.

One of the three main windows is devoted to promoting a mid-season Sale, which disappointingly actually only covers three rails of product inside. In store mannequins exemplify the yellow and ruffle trends.

Value - 6

Sparkly Lurex bandeau tops are well priced at £22, a spider web design adds interest to a tie-dye dress making it worth its £28 price tag, but a smart black cropped jacket is off the mark for Miss Selfridge's core customer at £50.

Printed T-shirts are actually more expensive than Topshop's at £18. A ruffle-bibbed cream blouse with black piping is simply too much for what it is at £35.

Combats are a little more than customers might hope for at between £28 and £32. A star print V-neck top with key hole neck details is well positioned at £16.

dawn-o'loughlin-miss-selfri• Are you a regular shopper here?
Yes, I shop here frequently

• What does this shop mean to you?
It's a great shop, really good at getting it right.

• How impressed are you with this season's offerings?
I thought it was very on-trend. The colours were good. There was a fuchsia pink top with a black crochet neckline that caught my eye.

• What is it they're doing well?
It does colour really well, lots of brights, which are very "in" right now. It's also a really good place to buy basics.

• What have they missed out that you would have liked to have seen?
I think the eveningwear could be improved; I came in here to buy a dress for a 21st and couldn't find anything. I'd like to see a bigger and more exciting range of "going-out" tops.
