Looks - 8Florals is the strongest trend for Zara, and is referenced heavily through printed smock tops and dresses. Nautical is touched upon with a blue and white striped blazer, while an ombre vest covered in tassels stands apart from the other dip dye product on the high street. The colour palette is classic Zara, largely comprising of neutral shades of putty, peach, pink and beige, while Zara's young fashion Trafaluc section takes advantage of the Klaxons-style teenage penchant for bright colours also seen at H&M. | Mix - 7Basics are strong with jersey dresses, T-shirts, vests and cardigans coming in multiple bright colours. The majority of the mix is smart daywear, with a plethora of sheer blouses, cotton shirts and linen seperates leading the way. There are more trousers than other contemporary offerings, with jodphurs, tapered styles, wide-leg sailor trousers and striped skinny jeans, and less skirts and shorts than you might expect for summer. Trafaluc does a great line in denim, with some interesting styles, such as a sky blue exaggerated flare not seen elsewhere. |
Store - 6There is oddly no mannequins in this Zara store, and this leaves the inside feeling a bit flat, with the consumer having to create all their outfit ideas themselves. The store itself is bright with marble floors, dark wood finishing and plenty of browsing space, but is unforgivably messy for somewhere that is not very busy. Segmentation between Zara's Basic, Woman and Collection lines is unclear, but the Trafaluc section is well signposted. | Value - 6Ribbed vests in the younger Trafaluc section are just £5, and denim earns its £35 price tag with 1970s-style flares and ultra-wide legs that aren't found anywhere else. Casual pieces such as combat trousers are excellent value at £17 as are stripy cardigans for £9. There is some confusion between Zara Woman and Zara Basic with printed silk floral tops priced at £39 and £29 respectively with no apparent reason for the price difference other than the name, and this happens across a number of other product categories. A cotton trench is well priced for its market at £49, while nylon lightweight jackets are good value at £29. Tribal print dresses are £25.
