The BBC is to launch an ethical fashion magazine online

The BBC is to launch an online ethical fashion magazine called Thread.

The magazine, which will launch at www.bbc.co.uk/thread on April 22, is designed for fashion conscious consumers who care about where their clothes come from. A four-part television programme called Blood, Sweat and T-Shirts will air on BBC Three at the same time. The series features six young fashion lovers who travel to India to find out how their clothes are made.

Thread will feature fashion from eco-brands, tips for ethical shopping and articles about clothing manufacturing and the eonvorinmental footprint of goods.

The BBC said that research carried out for Thread among 16 to 30 year old consumers suggested that ethical fashion was no longer a fringe movement. Thread said that almost one in three people polled said they intended to buy more ethical fashion in the future.

What a great online feature from the BBC once again, consumers and buyers are becoming more eco and ethically conscious when selecting fashion lines. Children’s brands such as Katvig are also striving to be as eco conscious as possible. They produce rainwear from recycled plastic bottles, use organic cotton, bamboo, non-wood and soy ink for all printed marketing material and use bio-degradable shipping bags that are reused as carrier bags by the end consumer. Eco fashion does not have to compromise on style, colour or be expensive as Katvig proves.

It's about time. I set up the UK's first ever clothes swap website whatsmineisyours and we have been allowing the public to swap / recycle and re-use for the past 4 years. Good on the BBC for thinking about ethical fashion in such a positive and creative light.
