GFW Education Day takes place on June 12

Graduate Fashion Week is to launch an "Education Day" during GFW to enable member universities to promote their courses to 14-18 year old school children and Further Education students.

Visitors to Education Day will be able to see one of three Gala catwalk shows staged during the day, as well being able to attend one of two career clinics which will be hosted by fashion expert and TV presenter Caryn Franklin. Franklyn will host discussions with a panel of experts from the fields of design, buying, retail, styling, marketing and the internet.

Education Day is designed to inform potential fashion students about what it is like to work in the industry and to advise them on which career path might suit their skills and ambitions. It will also enable member universities to promote their courses directly to potential students.

GFW chairman Terry Mansfield said: "It has been reported that the value to the economy of Britain's flourishing creative industries is now broadly comparable to that of the financial services sector. Graduate Fashion Week is where it all begins and brings together some of the country's very best emerging designers. For us, 2008 is an incredibly exciting year, not only are we celebrating a move to Earls Court 2, but also the launch of the event's first ever Education Day."

Christopher Hodge, programme leader BA (hons) Fashion, Northumbria University School of Design added: "The addition of Education Day to this years' Graduate Fashion Week provides an exciting and valuable opportunity for us to meet potential future students at grass roots level."

The Graduate Fashion Week Education Day takes place on June 12 at the new venue Earls Court 2 in London. To download a booking form go to www.gfw.org.uk and click on the education page or call 01903 885 748.
