Julien Macdonald has joined the board of judges and presenters of the River Island Gold Award at Graduate Fashion Week.

Graduate Fashion Week, which kicked off on Sunday, hosts a wide range of fashion colleges and showcases their work to the industry as well as giving students access to potential employers.

River Island sponsors the headline £20,000 prize - the River Island Gold Award.

Macdonald will join Claudia Schiffer, Elle editor-in-chief Lorraine Candy and River Island chief executive Richard Bradbury to judge the award.

Macdonald said: "I've always been a huge fan and supporter of young British designers, and after graduating from Brighton University and taking part in Graduate Fashion Week myself, I am delighted that this year I'm going to have the opportunity to give something back, because this is where the next star of the future will be found."

Bradbury added: "We are delighted that Julien is joining our panel for this year's River island Gold Award. He's a great example of the amazing talent that has come out of Graduate Fashion Week and now has international acclaim."

The River Island Gold Award winner will be announced on Wednesday night.

Graduate Fashion Week is taking place at Earls Court 2 in London. The event closes on Thursday at 5pm. For tickets and more information call 01903 885 478.
