New British Clothing Industry Association (BCIA) boss Peter Lucas is looking to recruit members from a broader cross section of the industry.
Lucas who took up the role at the BCIA at the end of last month is chairman and chief executive of menswear manufacturer BMB Group. He is also chairman of Arafa Holdings Brand Division which owns menswear retailer SRG.
Lucas, who succeeds John McAdam at the BCIA who had held the post for the past 17 years. is looking to sign up people who are active in the industry across menswear, womenswear, knitwear and workwear.
He told the BCIA's annual general meeting: "The British fashion industry is alive and well. We need to build an organisation that mirrors where the industry is now and where it is going."
Lucas said he was also looking to build better working relationships with other fashion trade associations. Discussions have already begun on how the BCIA and UK Fashion Exports (UKFE) can improve the way they work together.
Lucas added: "We need to be able to talk as one industry and with one voice. The BCIA has the potential to be the the focal point of the industry so we can all work together for the benefit of those within the sector."
