Pringle has appointed a new chief executive

Pringle has appointed Mary-Adair Macaire, global marketing director at Chanel, as its new chief executive.

Macaire will join Pringle, the Scottish knitwear brand, on September 1 and will replace Douglas Fang, who will step down as chief executive but remain involved in the business as vice chairman.

Macaire, who was also previously vice president of Chanel ready-to-wear in the US, has considerable experience in marketing, sales, retail management, merchandising, promotion and multi category product development within the luxury sector. She said: "It was a a true brand building experience [at Chanel]. One that I am looking forward to applying and enhancing within my new position within Pringle of Scotland."

Fang said: "My vision for Pringle of Scotland has always been to rebuild it into a world class fashion and luxury brand. The extraordinary transformation over the past years has been successful, and Pringle is now well positioned to enter the next phase of development and growth. Mary-Adair shares the same strategic vision as I and provides the strong leadership skills and experience necessary to take the business forward."

Macaire added: "For many people Pringle of Scotland represents a company with a long-standing reputation for manufacturing luxurious, top quality knitwear...for others, it is a wonderful new label in the luxury fashion marketplace. I believe Pringle is a luxury fashion brand with potential much greater than the sum of these parts. That is a goal worth achieving."
