Fashion companies devastated by Camden fire

Punkyfish's Chalk Farm store has been badly affected by the Camden fire

Young fashion retailer Punkyfish was among the fashion retailers that were devastated by a huge fire in London's Camden last weekend.

The Punkyfish store, which the company counts as being in the group's top three, has been gutted by the blaze.

Punkyfish head of retail and IT Mustafa Fadjia estimated that over last weekend the store had lost more than £4000.

After Dark Fashions, a gothic clothing retailer located near Punkyfish, lost more than £500,000 worth of stock and business in the fire and yesterday local young fashion shops G-Heaven and Concession on Chalk Farm road were torn down.

Owner of G-Heaven Tarrinee Suepsaman said she was saddened by the fire and that now she was going to hunt for a new location. She said: "Today I am going to look for another shop and if we're lucky we can move into it very soon."

G-Heaven which supply's retailers including Leeds based Ark Clothing and Cult Clothing had been located at the Hawley Road site for less than a year.

The cause of the fire is being investigated. Camden Council confirmed that while the fire was contained in the relatively small area known as Canal Street Market, about six shops in Chalk Farm Road were badly damaged as well as 90 market stalls behind the shops.

Punkyfish expects to be closed for the rest of the week.
