Bread and Butter is launching fabric exhibition - The Source

Streetwear show Bread & Butter is launching fabric exhibition The Source as part of its next edition, which takes place in Barcelona from July 2-4.

The Source will specialise in denims, cotton fabrics, wool and blended fabrics, and has more than 60 confirmed textile exhibitors, with the majority coming from Italy.

Bread & Butter president Karl-Heinz Müller said the floor space allocated for the show has room for a further 140 exhibitors, which he believed would be filled by the January 2009 edition.

"We will not be a huge fair but the best fair, with the best content," said Müller. He explained that the idea of running The Source in conjunction with Bread & Butter was to create an environment of exchange between textile manufacturers and brands, in an exciting and creative atmosphere.

"We are doing something different; it is not just about showing some swatches, we are getting together people with the same thing in mind," he said.

The Source will be held in two halls at the Fira de Barcelona fairground. Denim and sportswear mills will show in hall six, alongside laundries and accessory suppliers. Cottons, wool, blended fabrics and leather furnishers will show in hall seven, along with CMT (cut, make and trim) companies. A number of mills have already signed up including Mario Cucchetti Tessuti from Italy, Denimhead from the US and France's Creations Robert Vernet.

The theme of July's Bread & Butter show will be New Order, which in part signals a renewed effort to focus on the exhibition's editing.
The biggest changes are the rebranding of the Denim hall to Denim Base, and the Fashion hall to Fashion Now.

There will be tighter controls over which brands exhibit in each hall. Brands with a more complete fashion collection will be confined to Fashion Now, with Denim Base reserved for jeans specialists.

Brands that will move include Desigual, which will shift from Denim into the Fashion Now hall, and Dr Denim Jeansmakers, which will move from the Superior hall into Denim Base. The entrance and buyer check-in area has also been extended to improve access.

For July's edition of Bread & Butter, 858 exhibitors have confirmed their attendance. At last January's event there were 954 exhibitors.
Brands already confirmed include Ben Sherman, G-Star, Hilfiger Denim, Replay and CK Calvin Klein.
