Riccardo Bellini, the managing director of Diesel UK, is to leave his position later this month to take up a new role at the brand's Italian headquarters.

Bellini, who has been in the UK role for 18 months, has been promoted to vice president of brand and marketing worldwide and will be based at the Diesel head office in Bassano, Italy.

Bellini will be replaced by Jonathan Hewlett, who will take up his position on October 27.

Hewlett joins from consumer goods group Procter & Gamble, where he spent 16 years working within the company's prestige products division, which is responsible for fragrance and skincare products.

Diesel headhunted Bellini from the same division at Procter & Gamble in January 2007 to run the Italian fashion brand's UK operation which involves managing 500 staff and overseeing about 300 wholesale accounts.

During his tenure, Bellini has overseen the introduction of the brand's new premium fashion line Black Gold, which sits above its mainline, and has recruited key personnel including former House of Fraser menswear buyer Pablo Sueiras, who joined as head of Diesel's UK retail operations.
