It has been an award-winning year for Michele Harriman-Smith. Childrensalon scooped Best Multichannel Retailer (£25m-£200m turnover) in the Drapers Digital Awards in May and Fashion Retail Business of the Year (£30m-£100m turnover) at November’s Drapers Awards.
Harriman-Smith transformed her mother’s independent kidswear firm into an international business, which made sales of £42.8m and pre-tax profits of £10.7m for the year to 31 December 2015. It now serves more than 130 countries around the world and provides customer services in 25 languages.
The charismatic chief executive is not one to rest on her laurels, though, and her latest venture is an outlet section of the Childrensalon website to “allow shoppers access to beautiful product, which they might not be able to afford ordinarily”.
