After storming into the Drapers Top 100 last year when he led the launch of 50 Pep&Co stores in just over 50 days, Mountford has climbed further in 2016 by opening a handful more. He and the Pep&Co team starred in ITV documentary Bargain Shop Wars, which built more awareness of the emerging value player among the general public.
Sister firm GHM! (Guess How Much!) is proving a new avenue of opportunity for Pep&Co clothing, while the company is also trialling its offer in some Poundland stores, after Christo Wiese-backed Steinhoff bought the chain for £610m last year.
Based on a year’s trading experience and refining the offer, Mountford believes he can build a strong business, so we expect him to climb again in 2017.
