Sainsbury’s is now the UK’s sixth-largest clothing retailer by volume. Led by James Brown, sales of its bestselling clothing brand, Tu, grew by almost 1% in the 28 weeks to 24 September, following the launch of a new Admiral Performance range for men in August and Tu Premium for women in September.
Before his promotion to director of commercial in September, Brown had been director of non-food trading since 2014.
A priority for the supermarket is to grow clothing and general merchandise, and deliver “synergies” by integrating with Argos. It plans to roll out 200 digital collection points for Tu clothing.
