In what has been a difficult year for footwear retailers, Schuh continued with its onward march of expansion under Temple’s lead.
The retailer opened 17 new shops – including its first German store in Oberhausen – and four standalone children’s stores. It also opened children’s departments in existing stores, and introduced mobile payment technology to its store estate.
In September it revealed that turnover increased 7.8% to £266.8m in 2015, while pre-tax profits were up 28.1% to £15.2m.
Kudos also goes to Temple after Schuh was ranked fifth in Glassdoor’s annual Best Places to Work UK 2016 list – the only fashion or footwear retailer to make the top 25 on the list, which is based on a survey of employee satisfaction across companies with more than 1,000 employees.
