Peter Ruis has been vocal about the challenges facing the retail industry this year, among them discounting, Brexit and immigration. The premium men’s and women’s wear retailer made headlines in October when it launched its “Jigsaw loves immigration” campaign as a celebration of the importance of EU and other non-UK nationals to British industry.
Meanwhile, its most recent results show sales rose 8% to £94.7m for the year to 1 October 2016, while adjusted BITDA increased by 5.5% to £5.7m. In September, Jigsaw opened a new store in the revamped King’s Cross area of the city, taking its total count to 87 and heralding the start of a partnership with Central Saint Martins. Along similar lines, Ruis has also teamed up with Graduate Fashion Week as a mentor on their Protégé Project, alongside Drapers editor Keely Stocker.
However, the future is looking a little less certain for Jigsaw after founder John Robinson hired KPMG in October to explore options for the business, which could include a sale.
