Colin Temple has led Schuh into another solid year of sales and profit growth. In June, it reported a 5.3% rise in sales to £280.9m for the year to 28 January, and pre-tax profits rose by 9.3% to £16.6m. The business has also continued to drive productivity and efficiency through swapping conventional cash tills for free-standing kiosks and handheld payment machines in stores.
As well as launching a third store on London’s Oxford Street, Schuh opened two new kids’ footwear standalones at Westfield Stratford City and Bluewater in Kent. Four stores in Romford, Aberdeen, Chelmsford and Essen in Germany were converted to hybrid stores featuring both kids’ and adult ranges, while one adult Schuh store opened in Luton during the year.
In further cause for celebration, Schuh picked up the gong for Multiple Footwear Retailer of the Year at the Drapers Footwear Awards in May and Best Place to Work at this year’s Drapers Awards in November.
