US actress Meghan Markle has taken the fashion industry by storm since her engagement to Prince Harry was announced in November. On the day the news broke, one in every 227 searches online globally was for Markle. Accessories and clothing she has worn have sold out almost instantly.
Searches for the bag from Scottish accessories brand Strathberry she wore during her first official appearance following the engagement increased by 2,044%, and stock sold out within 11 minutes. As the May wedding approaches, designers and retailers will look to cash in on the “Meghan effect” in 2018.
