Beth Butterwick, CEO, Karen Millen

Beth Butterwick continued the turnaround of Karen Millen this year.

Sales rose 2% to £161.9m in the year to 24 February 2018 and its gross profit grew 4% to £99m, while it cut its operating loss by 85% to £1.4m.

Karen Millen’s digital business grew “significantly” following investment in the web platform. It also focused on improving its product offer and further rationalising its store estate.

In October, Karen Millen bought fellow womenswear retailer Coast in a pre-pack administration deal. Butterwick has now appointed Ann Summers brand director Jane Eskriett in the same role at Coast. Eskriett was previously managing director of Fenn Wright Manson and Nicole Farhi.

Butterwick, who joined Karen Millen in 2016, said she was looking forward to an “exciting new chapter” for the combined business, which will include the launch of new ranges.
