James Brown, commercial director, Sainsbury’s Argos

James Brown has overseen the renaissance of Sainsbury’s Argos clothing brand Tu over the past few years, and in October Drapers revealed his plans to make the supermarket a “fashion destination” through the introduction of Oasis concessions in selected stores.

The Oasis concessions will be trialled in supermarkets where Tu performs particularly well, and Brown says they will complement the existing clothing offer.

Meanwhile Tu, which has an annual turnover in the region of £1bn, has been capitalising on opportunities afforded by changes at the wider business, including the acquisition of Argos owner Home Retail Group in 2016.

In March this year, Tu launched on the Argos website, helping it to reach a new audience of consumers. The planned merger with Asda could bring even more opportunities for the brand.
