In November, it opened an “experience lab” at its headquarters in Knowsley, Merseyside. Initial projects will focus on optimising the experience for customers who shop both online and in store. It comes after Matalan launched a new website, which delivered online sales growth of more than 30% in the year to 24 February. Total revenue rose by 2% year on year to £1.06bn, while EBITDA rose 36% to £104.5m. Sales and profits continued to grow in the 13 weeks to 26 May.
Jason Hargreaves said greater product choice, an improved in-store experience and website improvements had been well received. Matalan also expanded overseas, with two franchise stores in Gibraltar, among others.
