Demna Gvasalia, creative director, Balenciaga

Having stormed on to the fashion scene as the lead of design collective Vetements and creative director of Balenciaga, Georgian designer Demna Gvasalia has single-handedly set some of the biggest, and most influential, trends of recent years.

Oversized hoodies, frayed-hem denim, “ugly”, “dad” trainers – it is all down to him.

Gvasalia’s Balenciaga Triple S trainers, which feature a chunky sole and retail at more than £700, continue to sell out, more than a year since their debut. Despite questions over whether Vetements’ bubble has burst, Balenciaga continues to drive success at Kering, delivering “another period of particularly noteworthy, well-balanced growth” in the third quarter of 2018.
