Drapers 30 Under 30 2020: Charlotte Fellowes, junior buyer, Simply Be

Age: 28

Known for trading “smart and hard”, Charlotte Fellowes has made a real impact on N Brown Group, owner of brands including Jacamo and Simply BE, since joining the Manchester-based business in 2014.

“Charlotte has proved that you shouldn’t always follow trends,” explains Rachael Antal, head of buying at N Brown. “She developed a range of long-line and maxi jersey tops with a unique handwriting. After a tough sell during the sign-off process, Charlotte got the agreement to push these products through as trials. They have since flown out and fast become Simply Be volume lines.”

Fellowes has helped to drive a boost in sales in the jersey tops department, delivering “phenomenal” results despite tough trading conditions.

“I have no doubt she will one day develop into a head of buying – she is a star of the future,” adds Antal.

Fellowes has loved fashion from an early age. Her grandmother taught her to sew as a child and, as a teenager, she made her own clothes.

“I have learnt how incredibly fast paced this industry can be, and it is only getting faster,” she says. “It is important to always understand the market and react quickly for the customer. Teamwork is key. It is so vital to build and maintain key relationships within your immediate and wider teams.”
