How is trade against this time last year? We changed our business model at the end of last year to a short-order brand-driven operation after seeing the economy take a downturn. We found that customers wanted the big brand names and quality but were not able to pay the price. I am also buying more cancelled orders from brands which sell at a lower price.

How did your summer Sale go? Sale time is always fantastic for us as we get a more constant flow of customers coming into the store.

Which brands are selling well? Classics such as Gant and Ralph Lauren always do well.

How do you think autumn 09 will shape up for kidswear indies? I think it will be very tough, especially if retailers have forward-ordered too much. The suppliers are a lot hotter on invoice deadlines than ever before. Cash flow will be key to kidswear indies being in business in six months’ time.
