Alexander McQueen

The look:
Clingfilmed faces with overblown lips may have suggested an attack on our burgeoning obsession with creating the perfect face, but McQueen’s flamboyant clothing was anything but cookie cutter. Prints veered from houndstooth checks which migrated into diving swallows on ballooning evening gowns, to entwined snakeskins paired with armour like silver discs studded with rubies. Shapes were pulled, draped, swagged and set into bubbles, fishtails and cocoons in a red, orange and monochrome palette.

Key pieces:
Statement stripes in orange and black wool wound around the body and head in contrast directions, while puff sleeved harlequin print silk shirts were sewn into dogtooth, tailored jumpsuits.
