US young fashion chain American Eagle is to open its first two stores in Japan this week, starting with a large-scale flagship in Tokyo today.
The 15,000 sq ft store, located on a busy intersection of Omotesando and Harajuku in central Tokyo, is the brand’s first flagship on this scale outside of its home market of the US.
The store is spread across three floors and houses the retailer’s complete collection of men’s and women’s clothing and accessories as well as American Eagle’s Aerie Lingerie brand.
The retailer’s second store in Japan will open on Thursday (April 19) and will be slightly smaller at 8,500 sq ft and is located in a shopping centre in the Tokyo Bay area.
American Eagle also plans to open two more stores in Tokyo in August and December and has not ruled out openings in other areas of Japan if space becomes available.
American Eagle has stores in 12 countries outside the US and is looking to continue expanding internationally but declined to give any further details on countries at this stage.
