What she’s learnt: “It’s better to ask for forgiveness than permission.”
Kantar’s vice-president of retail insights, Raymond Gaul, hired Anusha Couttigane from a pool of more than 50 applicants in May 2016, after a high-profile client requested an analyst with experience of the fashion industry. Both Kantar and the client agreed that Couttigane was the best candidate. She was just 25 at the time.
Gaul describes her as “the most ambitious, driven and dedicated analyst” he has worked with during his 18-year career at Kantar, and says he sees her becoming a chief executive one day in the future.
“She has taken relationships with fashion clients into high growth year on year and is quickly becoming an ambassador of global fashion research,” he adds.
Couttigane has had a life-long interest in fashion. Her final thesis while studying English Literature and History at the University of Oxford was on Dior’s “new look” and its impact on perceptions of social class. She built on her interest after graduating, starting the fashion research programme at agency Conlumino (now Global Data), where she was promoted within the year.
