Ashley denies House of Fraser rumours

Sports Direct owner Mike Ashley yesterday did his best to quell the mounting speculation that he may be poised to purchase a majority stake in department store group House of Fraser.

Speaking to analysts as Sports Direct reported its first half results yesterday (December 13), Ashley said the recent rumours about House of Fraser were “old news”.

He went on to admit that he had looked at buying a stake in House of Fraser about nine months ago but that the recent claims were unfounded.

Earlier this week Drapers reported that Ashley had been linked to a string of deals including one which may see him purchase House of Fraser chairman Don McCarthy’s stake in the business.
