Spring 12

The look Geometric couture meets futuristic streetwear.

Key pieces Minimal boxy jackets with oversized structured shoulders stood out in shiny bonded fabrics, with colour block panels and a simple across the body strap that brought a futuristic sporty feel. Tiny athletic shorts were key alongside tapered high-waisted trousers. A new take on the tuxedo jacket was also noted, while a one-sleeved top updated the one-shoulder look. Collage-effect full skirts and panelled midi-length dresses finished the look.

Colours A mix of lilac, peach, purple, deep blue, gold and silver, on a base of black, white and tan.

Commercial appeal Balenciaga has never been preoccupied with commerciality, but designer Nicolas Ghesquière’s take on the sports trend may trickle down for a more directional interpretation of sports luxe.
