Bathing Belles

Many brands were showing nautical themes playing it safe in times of tough trading by sporting  a classic approach. However some brands presented it with a twist by re-working the look and taking inspiration from Edwardian and 1920s bathing costumes to give pieces a quirky vintage feel. Key details included bow ties of printed bows on matelot striped cotton jersey dresses and tops. Skirts had ruffle hems and contrast trims on hems. The drop waist was a key shape here on long length tops and dresses as were tiered ruffle tops worn over leggings. Anchors and rope trim were also sometimes used used to seal the sailor theme.
