For several seasons it’s been all about the chino, but at Drapers we think denim might just be on its way back. So it’s with perfect timing that one of our favourite Danish womenswear brands is launching a denim line for spring 13.
Established in 1999 by design duo Rikke Baumgarten and Helle Hestehave, Baum und Pferdgarten is known for its typically Danish aesthetic, with a clean and modern take on women’s wardrobe staples and everyday basics, all in covetable high-quality fabrics and finishes. Launched in the UK for autumn 12, the brand is currently stocked by Asos and indies Hub, Wild Swans and Monica & Joe.
Speaking of the denim launch, Baumgarten says: “It’s a good supplement to the main Baum und Pferdgarten collection. We all usually wear jeans so it was a very natural choice.”
The denim range focuses on two main fits and is designed to complement the wider clothing offer, which revolves around graphic-print and colour-blocked pieces and a sleek sporty style this season. There are two jeans options – a commercial super-slim style and a looser classic five-pocket option, as well as cropped shorts. With the coloured denim trend set to continue, a choice of summer white, rich mustard and punchy electric red, alongside a blue and white striped finish, all promise to be winners.
So now there is denim, what’s next for the brand? “We would like a wider accessories line, as well as enlarging the whole collection and expanding the brand to the south of Europe,” says Baumgarten. And who does she think the Baum und Pferdgarten shopper is? “They’re urban women of all ages, who love good quality and long-lasting design with personality.”
