BFA appoints new sales and marketing director

The British Footwear Association has appointed a new sales and marketing director.

John Saunders, who has more 30 years’ experience in the footwear industry, has joined with immediate effect.

The new role combines two main responsibilities - overseeing the BFA’s Accelerated Development Programmes, a mentoring scheme to assist up-and-coming footwear designers - as well as taking over management of all exhibitions and international shows attended by BFA members.

Consultant Nicholas Parry-Billings had been covering this aspect of the role, but retired at the recent Micam exhibition in March.

Saunders has worked internationally and in export with SSL/ Scholl at director level. He has also held senior roles with US company Brown Shoe Corporation, Florida Group and kids footwear brand Start-rite.

Richard Kottler, chief executive of the BFA, said: “The new role is a critical development in our strategy of providing major support for British footwear companies. John will be the primary link with our with our increasing membership, and his particular skills and export experience will be invaluable.”

Kottler also paid tribute to Parry-Billings who has retired after 19 years with the BFA.”
