With the Berlin trade shows in full swing this week, we catch up with Georg Füth, head of design at menswear brand Olymp, which is exhibiting at Panorama.
What is new for autumn 14? This season we have introduced new looks into our formal shirting with different types of collar, such as the Piccadilly and cut-away collar, alongside more fun designs such as a floral purple pinstripe shirt with a rose print. We have used lots of micro-prints in our shirting and this collection also includes a boiled wool blazer for the first time.
Olymp is also 50% casualwear and for autumn 14 our knitwear has interesting details such as contrast trims, while in our casual shirting we have introduced a new woven fabric that is coated with a colour and then washed out to create a slightly worn but still smart look. We have lots of check designs in that style.
How has the show been for you today? It has been OK, though it did take a little while to pick up this morning. It is further out from the other shows so I think it will be busier tomorrow and I expect we’ll see more buyers.
Why have you chosen to show at Panorama instead of the other trade shows? Panorama is a show for commercial brands and it is perfect for Olymp for that reason. A part of our collection is more premium and some of it is more commercial, and this show has the right mix of labels for us. Buyers come here because they find all of the labels they are looking for in one place.
With constant demand for new product, are you working more in season? Not more, but we do offer our retailers new product consistently. We produce four collections a year, and we have three to four delivery dates for each one. So every month there is new product sent out.
Wholesale prices for Olymp shirting ranges from €50 (£41.60) to €69 (£57.40), while knitwear ranges from €69 (£57.40) to €170 (£141.44). Olymp is exhibiting on stand B-10.07.
