Bluewater shopping centre in Kent saw its busiest weekend of the Christmas season so far with over 240,000 shoppers visiting on the penultimate weekend before Christmas.
Footfall at the shopping centre was up 6% on the same weekend last year and on Saturday was up 8.4% on the same day last year.
Bluewater said that its extended opening hours played a part in the weekend’s strong performance, with the centre open from 9am until 11pm on Saturday.
“This is our fourth ‘payday’ weekend in a row, and each gets busier and even more successful for our retailers and restaurants,” said Bluewater general manager Robert Goodman.
“This Saturday was different to the previous weekends, however, as we are now into our ‘Mega Day fortnight’, where we are open until 11pm until December 22. Consequently, we had more couples and groups of young people shopping late on Saturday.”
