Brian Atwood teams up with Steve Madden

Footwear mogul Steve Madden and footwear designer Brian Atwood are teaming up to acquire Atwood’s luxury eponymous collection and sub-brand B Brian Atwood from The Jones Group.

The new partners will now own Atwood’s intellectual property and related assets, which had been under The Jones Group since 2012.

Speculation had been building that Atwood and some of Jones’ other businesses, which include Kurt Geiger and Stuart Weitzman could be divested as part of its sale to Sycamore Partners.

The terms of the deal have not been disclosed, although it will move under the new ownership from spring 15.

Atwood will continue as an owner and chief creative officer of the company and will have full operational and creative control of the design, production and distribution of the Milan-based collection.

The partnership will use Madden’s “global brand building expertise, strategic vision and relationships” to collaborate with Atwood on the design, production, marketing and distribution of sub-brand B Brian Atwood’s footwear and handbags.

Chief creative officer Brian Atwood said: “I look forward to the next phase of my business with support and expertise of Steve to drive strategic growth and category expansion to continue to create experiences that women love.”

Steve Madden added: “Brian Atwood is one of the world’s great designers. I’m such a big fan of his. We feel lucky to have the opportunity to work with him.”
