British Fashion Awards 2011: Image Gallery, Video and Winners

Alexander McQueen creative director Sarah Burton walked away with the top gong at last night’s prestigious British Fashion Awards.


Burton, who scooped the coveted Designer of the Year accolade at the awards held at London’s Savoy Theatre, was praised by award organisers the British Fashion Council for “allowing McQueen’s legacy to live on while still giving her own twist of creative genius to a collection that has outshone its rivals on and off the catwalk”.

The awards hosted by George Lamb and Lauren Laverne recognised excellence achieved in the fashion industry this year and was attended by a mix of fashion industry leaders, designers, retailers, models, celebrities and the media including members of the Drapers team.

Other notable winners from the evening included Christopher Kane who was the recipient of the inaugural New Establishment Award that recognises a movement in British fashion which is taking the industry by storm and Sam Gainsbury of Gainsbury and Whiting who scooped the Isabella Blow Award for Fashion Creator.

Stella McCartney walked away with the Red Carpet award while Victoria Beckham won the award for Designer Brand. Mary Katrantzou was awarded the Emerging Talent – Ready-to-Wear accolade for her bold graphic print collections and the British Style award, which is decided by public vote went to Alexa Chung for the second year running.

The Outstanding Achievement award was presented to designer Paul Smith who the British Fashion Council described as “a true icon in the industry for all that he consistently brings to the world of fashion”.

Harold Tillman, chairman of the British Fashion Counci,l said: “This year’s nominees demonstrate the breadth and creativity London has to offer.

“The fashion brands and designers that are based here set the trends across the globe.”
