Alongside our Close-Up with Alexis Babeau, managing director of PPR’s luxury division, we ask a panel of buyers what’s hot for spring 13, and what they’ll be buying into for autumn.
Ruth Chapman, joint chief executive, Matches
PPR is an extremely important partner for us as we work with Alexander McQueen, Balenciaga, Saint Laurent, Christopher Kane, Gucci and Bottega Veneta across womenswear and menswear. These brands are a key part of the Matches edit of the season.
My highlights this summer come from Stella McCartney, who is going from strength to strength and delivers great collections that really resonate with a wide range of women. Balenciaga’s collection set the tone for spring 13 and already has a long waiting list - it’s very collectable because it’s Nicolas Ghesquière’s last collection. We are excited to see what Alexander Wang’s interpretation of the brand will be next season.
With Sarah Burton at the helm Alexander McQueen is doing incredibly well, and is consistently one of our best-selling collections across womenswear and menswear. McQ is a rising star in our contemporary edit too.
Laura Larbalestier, buying director, Browns
“As a group I think the collections are going from strength to strength and each brand has a unique customer base. My favorites of the season were McQueen and Balenciaga.”
Deborah Gale, head of womenswear, Cruise:
“PPR has delivered fantastic collections once again this season. Gucci’s spring 13 range looks fantastic in store. The delicate embellishment and the pretty summer colour palette has had a fantastic reaction from our customers.
Alexander McQueen’s autumn 13 collection is another favourite. This has to be one of the best ready-to-wear collections I have viewed this season. Prints were striking, and the gowns are sculptured and inspired by monasteries. The collection was beautiful in every way, yet another amazing collection from McQueen.”
