Assistant buyer, The Shop at Bluebird.
It is no coincidence that during Ben Carr’s first season at Chelsea boutique The Shop at Bluebird, menswear sales rocketed 42%. “Autumn 14 was a turning point in menswear for the store and the results have been wonderful,” Carr beams. “I am extremely proud to see the edits of collections in store performing so well.”
Head of The Shop at Bluebird Claire Miles credits Carr’s natural eye for luxury fashion for the strength of the autumn 14 edit. “Ben curated a strong menswear offer with great results. He is driven and passionate about making The Shop at Bluebird a success.”
Understanding the customer and getting the right product mix are skills Carr has been honing since interning with Matchesfashion.com in June 2010. He joined The Shop at Bluebird as buying admin assistant in May 2012, progressing to assistant buyer by November 2013.
Carr is inspired by fashion pioneers such as ex-Liberty fashion director Luisa De Paula. “She’s not only worked with some of London’s best stores, she transformed many of them,” he says.
The ultimate ambition is to open a menswear concept store. Carr sees a gap in the market in northern England. “End in Newcastle are doing an amazing job in the Northeast, but ultimately I would like to open something in Leeds.” Watch this space.
