Francesca Hodgson has never been afraid of hard work. An independent streak and desire to get stuck in saw her bound into the world of work aged 14, although her career in retail did not begin until she went travelling in Australia in 2011 after graduating from Canterbury Christ Church University with a degree in English and French.

In Australia, Hodgson worked as a visual merchandising administrator at accessory brand Strandbags. A love of fast fashion blossomed and she made it her mission to enter the industry upon returning to the UK in 2013.

The role as international partnerships team coordinator at New Look was the perfect fit. Hodgson joined the retailer in January 2014, adding a promotion to junior operations manager for third-party ecommerce to her list of accomplishments in November.

A can-do attitude gives Hodgson the edge, according to head of international partnerships Simon Taylor. “In just under a year at the company, Francesca has already made a massive impact on the international partnerships teams,” says Taylor. “Her ability to understand and improve processes meant she was our first choice for promotion in November.”

Hodgson is determined to focus on what makes her happy. “I have learnt that you shouldn’t compare yourself to others,” she reflects. “People progress at different stages, and there is definitely no set place you should be in your career by a set age.”
