“Marie Davies is one of those rarest of types, a true creative blended with solid commercial nous, and she is an absolute gold-weight asset to our business,” says Amazon head of fashion - and former Drapers editor - Jessica Brown. Quite the compliment, but one well deserved.

She graduated from Westminster University with a BA (Hons) in Fashion Merchandising Management in 2009, which included a one- year placement in the merchandising department at Coast and an internship in PR in New York with Italian accessory brand Tod’s. However, she switched to publishing and was hired by Brown as a fashion writer at Drapers in 2010, and subsequently promoted to junior fashion editor in 2011.

Davies was headhunted in 2012 to join fashion photography firm Fashot where she managed 30 stylists and consulted for blue-chip companies, before joining Amazon UK in 2013. She is now tasked with improving the credibility and consistency of the styling and art direction across its three European studios, as well as working closely with key brands such as Boss Orange, Hilfiger Denim and G-Star.

As well as managing a team of stylists, Davies sits as the chief EU representative on the Amazon Global Imaging Standards Committee, working with the Amazon US and Asian imaging teams to define future creative direction for the fashion business across the world.

Davies has carved out quite the career, and for anyone looking to do the same she advises: “Always have a goal or ambition in mind, long-term and short-term. If you don’t know where you are heading you are never going to get there.”
