As one of the world’s most successful online businesses, eBay works with new web technologies and site design on a daily basis, and that insight is clear from the start with its new Fashion app for the iPhone, Android and Blackberry.
For the purposes of this review I conducted the test on an iPhone. On a basic level the app is a shortcut to eBay’s gigantic range of fashion listings, all of which are accessible through the main eBay iPhone app.
The difference here is the introduction of some classy tools to easily filter and browse specific fashion categories, coupled with an innovative wardrobe function that allows you to overlay clothes onto an image of yourself. It’s also easy to switch searches and you can find similar items by tapping the outfit to search for alternatives on eBay, so it’s quick to discover stuff of interest.
Users can also use the innovative landing page to flick between images featuring the season’s must-haves and select the product categories they’re interested in. The Fashion app also includes direct access to Fashion Vault and a Virtual Style Gallery, showing the latest trends and fashions.
Being eBay, buying is a breeze and there are some useful functions for habitual users. The only negatives are a few bugs causing an occasional crash, while there’s no offline functionality for downloading listings to browse in low-signal areas. But this is definitely the hottest app this month.
