Google has launched a new search engine that online retailers can install on their websites to allow customers to search effectively for products.
Google Commerce Search will give customers access to a fast, reliable search engine, which Google says will not crash with increased traffic volumes over the Christmas period.
Etailers subscribing to the service can upload their product data to Google via its Google Merchant Center tool, which will feed information into Google Commerce Search and other Google services.
Customers using the search engine, which can be customised to have a different name and branding, are able to filter search results by categories such as price, size or brand. There is also an in-built spell checker.
The searches can also be analysed to see how accurate the results are and the subsequent behaviour of customers.
Google says an effective search tool on a site will increase sales conversion rates as customers can find what they are looking for more quickly.
Google Commerce Search is a yearly subscription service and Google provides technical support throughout. Pricing is relative to product volumes.
