River Island is rolling out RFID tags to guarantee stock accuracy after a trial showed the technology can help to significantly increase sales.
The retailer added RFID tags to its products in six stores and found it improved stock accuracy from 72% to 97%,safety and loss programme manager Martin Speed told delegates at the Drapers Operations Forum in London today.
The technology means stores can be replenished when products are out of stock. Speed said sales in one of its trial storeshad a significant increase as a result.
“We’ll start roll out next year so everything will be in place for peak season,” he revealed.
River Island focused on using RFID for stock accuracy purposes during the trial, but Speed said it hoped to reap other benefits, such as fulfilling online orders from store and loss prevention.
