The class of 2013: Darren McKoy

With Drapers’ annual list 30 under 30 of fashion professionals to watch set to be unveiled this weekend, we’re catching up with some of the stars of last year. Today we catch up with Darren McKoy, EMEA footwear product manager at Onitsuka Tiger and Asics.

How did it feel being named in Drapers’ 30 under 30?
It was a great honour and achievement being named in the Drapers’ 30 under 30 last year. The acknowledgement by my peers and management was something that I didn’t expect and the chance to meet other nominees was great, because it was a pleasure to share different experiences and get an insight into where people see their careers developing in the future.

What has happened in your career since then?
Since then, my role has developed further as our organisation grows. I have been given more responsibility, taking on more product management tasks within Onitsuka Tiger and Asics Lifestyle. This means I now manage not only footwear, but now apparel and accessories, and all with a global perspective.

Do you have any tips or advice for other people who want to get started in a career clothing retail? The industry is very diverse. I would advise really thinking about the path you want to take and to just go for it. Stay focused and hungry for what you want to achieve and it will happen.
