The class of 2013: Ricky Moakes

Ahead of Drapers revealing 2014’s 30 under 30 of young fashion professionals to watch in our January 11 issue, we catch up with the class of 2013. Today it’s Lacoste Footwear’s colour and material deisgner - sports casual Ricky Moakes’ turn in the spotlight.

How did it feel being named in Drapers’ 30 under 30?
I felt valued within the business and it made all the work within my education worth it to get to where I am now.

What has happened in your career since then?
I have continued to develop in my role and became more focused on where I want to be in the near future and I understand the steps I need to put in place to get there.

Do you have any tips or advice for other people who want to get started in a career in clothing retail?
Aspiration, inspiration and determination. Plus make the most of graduate opportunities, while you can take up internships, graduate courses or apprenticeships. Aim big, but be realistic on the steps you take to get there and focus on development and what you can learn.
